A Whaleshark glimmers in the glassy conditions in the blue. Like a lot of marine species, especially fish, Whalesharks possess countershading camouflage. They have light-coloured underbellies to blend in with the light-coloured surface of the water when viewed from underneath and a dark topside to blend in with dark blue colours of deeper water when viewed from above. They also possess their more unique cryptic camouflaging consisting of dark and light spots and strips. Every different Whaleshark has its own unique pattern and scientists actually use the same software that NASA uses to map stars to track specific individual Whalesharks.
