A Banded Sea Krait returns to the reef after breaking the surface to breathe. This sea snake spends time in the ocean as well as on land. It hunts for prey within the small crevices of coral reefs and uses its venom to paralyse them. They must return to the surface periodically to breathe between dives hunting. However, like other marine reptiles they can lower their heartrate to hold their breathe for extended periods. They will return to land to digest food, reproduce and rest.
