Sharing is Caring
A lucky surfer sharing a tube with some friendly dolphins. Dolphins are extremely
intelligent animals and have the capcity to enjoy activities other than for survival and reproduction benefits. Surfing waves, playing with their food and even indulging in poisonous puffer fish for a high have all been recorded feats from these Cetaceans. However, it's their mating behaviour that really highlights their intelligence. Male Humpback Dolphins have been recorded donating colourful sponges to sexually mature females in an attempt to seduce them. Both male Humpback and Bottlenose dolphins have been shown to 'wing man' other males in their pod, helping each other secure mating with a female. Group sexual encounters even while females aren't receptive are common in dolphin populations. This highlights the purpose of sexual activities for dolphins extend beyond reproduction benefits for these fun loving creatures.
